The house rules for using Stitch Obsession β€” short, and written to be read rather than to catch you out.

Last updated: 2026-08-20

The short version: Make the patterns for yourself, for gifts, for charity, and sell what comes off your own hook. Please do not republish the written pattern or the photographs.

Using this site, or making something from a pattern on it, means these rules apply. There are not many, and none of them are hidden.

The patterns are yours to make

Every pattern on Stitch Obsession is free to read and free to use, permanently. Work them up for yourself, for presents, for a charity blanket, for a stall at a school fair. Anything you make with your own hands and your own yarn is yours, including the right to sell the finished item. You do not need permission and you do not owe us a share.

If you feel like crediting the pattern when you sell or post a photograph — “pattern from Stitch Obsession” with a link — it is genuinely appreciated and it helps another maker find it. It is a kindness, not a condition.

What stays with us

The written instructions, the round-by-round text, the photographs and the layout of each page are the work that keeps this site going. Please do not:

  • Copy the pattern text onto another website, forum, blog or app, in whole or in part.
  • Repackage it into a file, a booklet, a course or a paid product of any kind.
  • Translate and republish it elsewhere without asking first — ask, and the answer is often yes.
  • Republish the photographs, including cropped or filtered versions.

Sharing a link is always welcome and never needs permission. A link keeps the pattern free for the next person; a copy quietly ends that.

Crochet is a craft, not a guarantee

Ruby works up every pattern before it goes on the shelf and checks the counts round by round, but your yarn, your hook and your own tension all change what comes off the hook. Sizes and counts are an honest record of the sample, not a specification. Everything here is provided as it is, without a warranty of any kind, and we cannot promise a pattern will behave identically in every fibre. More on that on the disclaimer page.

Using the site itself

Read, print for your own use at your own table, and come back as often as you like. Please do not scrape the site wholesale, run automated tools against it, or try to break the newsletter form. If a bot starts hammering the signup endpoint it will be blocked, which is the one place an IP address gets used at all.

Money

Nothing on Stitch Obsession is for sale. There is no shop, no paid tier, no membership and no downloadable product. If that ever changes, the free patterns already published stay free. The site may in time carry affiliate links or advertising; if so it is disclosed on the affiliate disclosure page, and it never changes what a pattern says.

Links to other places

Now and then a page points somewhere else — a yarn producer, a technique explained well by somebody else. Once you have left this site, that site's own rules and privacy practices apply, and we cannot vouch for what they do.

If these rules change

They may be tidied or added to. When that happens the date at the top of this page changes, and carrying on using the site means the current version applies.
